The Jan. 18 Valley Record editorial on economic development makes many good points, but it has one serious flaw. The Upper Valley is not rural; it is suburban.

The majority of residents live in large residential developments. About the only “farms” are Christmas tree farms. Very few people here grow up on farms.

To be successful, an economic development plan needs to recognize the true nature of the community.
