Defense-fund sale a success

Letter to the Editor.

As co-organizer of the River Ridge community sale benefiting Cascade Gateway Foundation’s legal defense fund, I would like to extend a profound “thank you” to everyone in the Valley who dug into their closets and garages and donated, donated and donated to support our efforts. My garage was filled to the rafters!

Despite the torrential rains, a hardy bunch of shoppers came out to show their support, and support us they did. When the final penny was counted we had raised a whopping $3,500, exceeding all our hopes! The hard work truly paid off.

While accepting donations I heard many residents express their frustrations about the current mining plan proposed for Grouse Ridge, and its potentially devastating impacts on our environment. It was obvious that those participating as donors, helpers and shoppers were eager to fight. We urge everyone to support the folks at Cascade Gateway Foundation with time and money. No donation is too small.

Many thanks to Ken and Gail Hall for help with organizing the sale and donating their garage.

Also to Carol Maller and Mary Roberts for arranging the bake sale and baking many of the tasty treats themselves, and to everyone who contributed in someway to the success of our sale.
