Columnists should be given free rein

Letter to the editor

Have our favorite Valley Record columnists changed their writing style lately or has a new style mandate been put into place? Gone are the fun stories about events in their lives. Now, it’s all about keeping us updated on area events. I think that job should be left to staff writers like Ben Cape.

I have been a faithful subscriber ever since I moved to the Valley more than three years ago. The Valley Record has always been a great paper for me to catch up on the local news, find out how our Valley athletes are doing, feel the pulse of our citizens by reading their editorials and to be entertained. My favorite part of the Valley Record is the regular columnists like Kate Miller and Pat Simpson. These two gifted writers are my Valley Record entertainment. They have both offered us humorous glimpses into their personal lives.

I want to continue to be able to hear about the cabin and the Mountain Man. I want to continue to hear about puppy training, cat shows and ever-loving husbands. Kate and Pat’s articles regularly put a smile on my face and provide light-hearted content to talk about around the water cooler at work. I know I am not alone in my desire to have Kate and Pat write columns from their hearts. Please don’t just keep us informed. We like to be entertained, too!
