Well the largest part of Snoqualmie’s year-long Centennial Celebration was a hit. Wasn’t it great to see so many people in town May 17, despite the cold and wet conditions? Fortunately, the rain skirted the city and the celebration went off without a hitch.

I have to commend all those that worked on the celebration, especially Jolene Kelly, who’s put her heart and soul into it for many months.

I also have to commend Mayor Fletcher, or Fuzzy as I prefer to call him. He was a real trooper during the tattooing and worked in the role of mayor perfectly during the celebration. It’s obvious that his passion for the city of Snoqualmie is overwhelming and that he truly appreciates serving as mayor.

Community festivals are great in that they bring people together who may have no other connection to each other. They are a great way for the community to show off a bit. It was very disappointing to see the lack of coverage of the celebration from the majority of the news media, but I guess there are more compelling stories than how a community comes together to celebrate 100 amazing years as a city.

This coming weekend will have one of the biggest events to hit the Valley: the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. There is still time to participate in the event that raises money to fight cancer. Call Denise DuBose at (425) 888-0818 for information.
