Change needed in Snoqualmie elections

Letter to the Editor.

Finally the configuration of the City Council has representatives from all districts/wards/sections/citizens of the city.

When the Ridge was approved, the need for this representation from the Ridge on the council was foreseen and welcomed. With the city’s population distribution increasing on the Ridge to eventually surpass that of the old part of the city, the city must be aware that the situation could arise where the City Council would/could become unrepresentative of the city as a whole (i.e., no City Council members from the old part of the city being elected). This would be due to the way the council is presently elected.

As folk of the Ridge became aware, this situation (not being represented) is disheartening and unacceptable. No one wishes to be unrepresented in government. Especially local government. In the state of Washington, five Class 1- and five Class 2-type cities and 13 coded cities (classification of the city of Snoqualmie) are already divided into voting wards/districts. These cities found the need to change to wards/districts to allow representation throughout.

It is time the city takes action to prevent the possibility and/or reality of the whole city not being represented from occurring. The need to divide the city into voting wards/districts is here. This would ensure representation of all citizens throughout the city. I strongly urge the city and the City Council to make this one of its highest priorities this year.
