Candidate has capabilities city needs

Letter to the Editor

I am voting for Greg Harrelson, the next mayor of Snoqualmie. It is my strong belief that he is the best candidate. As our city has grown, it is increasingly more difficult to meet and know our elected officials personally, understand their beliefs and stances on important issues and vote with confidence for the best candidate.

I had the pleasure and opportunity this year to work closely with Greg. I have great respect for his personal values, his strong work ethic and his career achievements. Greg’s dedication to wife and son is apparent. Greg and Karen arrange business and social activities around those of their son. I have personally observed the calm, sure manner in which Greg organizes his time to fulfill his and Karen’s business commitments and their son’s school and extracurricular activity needs. Greg’s management skills as a team leader responsible for revenues in excess of $250 million, and his abilities as an educator in leadership and communication skills at Microsoft, support my belief that he is prepared to lead our city. He has the respect and support of his co-workers and his management experience qualifies Greg as best prepared to manage city business.

Greg has an organized and logical mind and is able to quickly grasp the conflict between expected and unexpected outcomes and recognize consequences of actions. He also has the unique ability to promptly devise a plan of action for an issue in a firm, decisive manner. He is able to visualize issues independent of preconceived notions and without interest to any personal benefit. Greg is professional and easy to talk with. He is an excellent public speaker and answers questions directly and succinctly. His experience and innate ability to focus directly on the issue at hand qualifies Greg as best prepared to direct the city.

I support Greg’s vision for our city. He is not limited by views presently held by our electeds on constructing costly municipal or recreational facilities, cutting essential public safety, health and welfare services or expanding growth in order to maintain a viable, livable Snoqualmie. Greg’s plan to increase the city’s involvement in the promotion, support and recruitment of a viable business community is the best way to ensure our city’s financial security. His knowledge of our issues and attributes of Snoqualmie impress me and qualify Greg as our best choice for mayor.

While on council, Greg’s opponent in this race supported and approved Ridge II as a financial boon to the city from increased property tax, business tax and building tax revenues. At that time he failed to heed the warnings of peers, Planning Commission members and city staff to prepare for future unsustainable expenses, take into account that large building revenues were one-time funds and recognize the city’s financial constraints.

I’ve about reached my limit of increased taxes, LIDS, levies and bonds. I’m voting for responsible, experienced leadership.

Vote Greg Harrelson for mayor of Snoqualmie.
