Buffer and fence would protect farm

Letter to the Editor.

It has come to my attention through a personal friend that there is a 258-unit apartment building proposed for construction adjoining his property.

I would like to join with Ewing Stringfellow in his request for a 50-foot evergreen tree buffer and a nonclimbable fence to be constructed along the property boundary line at the expense of the developer.

I believe these requests are very reasonable given the scope of the project and the impact this dwelling will have on the community and neighboring farm land.

The fence will prevent liability issues from arising, protecting the Stringfellows from potential lawsuits from encroaching neighbors.

The evergreen buffer is a valuable consideration the city should require of the developer to help insure privacy for both the residents of the new dwelling unit and the Stringfellow family. This row of evergreen trees would not only provide privacy, but would also improve the aesthetics of the multi-unit dwelling.

The potential liability the city could incur from not responding to this request for safety could be costly to the city in the future should there ever be injury to a child that may cross through the barbed-wire fence into the pasture with the cattle.

I appreciate your willingness to help keep the community safe and appealing.
