Mention the words boundary adjustment and homeowners sold on the idea that they could always have their kids walk to school get red-faced quickly.

Last week the school board and district office took the first steps in making a boundary adjustment. Cascade View is busting at the seams and there are other facilities, such as Snoqualmie Elementary, that are not at capacity.

It makes sense to best utilize all the facilities in the district. If that means bussing kids to a school that may not be closest to their homes, then so be it.

At a time when the district is asking us for $200 million-plus, it is only prudent that they also utilize their current facilities to the maximum possible. To do anything else would be totally irresponsible and hurt the credibility of any future levies the district may put forth.

The school board and district administration is doing the right thing by using existing facilities to full capacity. It makes sense and is fiscally prudent. Voters should expect this process to happen before we are asked to pay more for new schools.
