Board inspired to be the best it can be

Letter to the Editor

At last week’s school board meeting, I had the privilege of being sworn in as director for the next two years. I am proud to continue serving our community, parents, teachers, staff and, most importantly, our students. Thank you for putting your faith in me – I will do all I can to honor this trust. I would also like to thank those who supported my campaign in so many vital ways.

At our Jan. 12 work session, the board listened as each of our principals unveiled their school improvement plans. Our principals and their staffs used a process that was inclusive, collaborative, data-driven and specifies measurable and timely goals that are ultimately focused on student achievement. The presentations inspired the board and we have committed to developing an improvement plan of our own. Watch for notice of the public work session on this topic in the next few weeks. I look forward to engaging our community in gathering information during this process.

Working together, we can create a future for our schools that reflects the heritage of our Valley, while at the same time embracing the diversity of our evolving community. Thanks for your commitment to making our schools as strong as our students deserve them to be.
