Be proud of new sports stadium

Record Editorial

Well, another battle between Mount Si and Cedarcrest is in the history books. The unique thing about this one was the location, a brand new stadium at Cedarcrest High School. It was a thing of beauty with new turf, new stands, a newly installed rubberized track and all the fencing.

I’m sure last Friday’s game will hold special memories for all those who participated. Seniors from both Mount Si and Cedarcrest will have memories to last a lifetime. The Wildcat players perhaps wondering what could have been, and the Red Wolves’ players feeling the sensation of a big hometown win.

But the stadium was also a star. After numerous attempts to pass a stadium levy, the seemingly impossible happened. The Lower Valley has a great athletic facility of which it, and the students of Cedarcrest, can be proud.

But I have to tell you, the bathroom situation seemed to be missing from the overall equation. My understanding is that there was not enough water credits to allow the stadium’s bathrooms to be finished. I would think the Duvall City Council, city staff and the mayor could find a win-win situation for their constituents. Can’t a way be found to trade some water credits from another project? Maybe a city project? Have alternatives been looked at and are there possible solutions that have not been explored?

But beyond the shortcomings of city-dispersed ERU’s is the positive effort that Lower Valley voters have made in building such a facility. You all did the right thing.

Congratulations to Cedarcrest for winning the Valley Record sponsored Valley Cup trophy.
