Alpine Days a success, but help needed for 2001

Letter to the Editor.

To the merchants and residents of the North Bend community:

During my three years as President of the North Bend Festival

Committee, I’ve worked with a terrific team of volunteers who each year put in

125 percent to provide this community an exciting and fun festival for old

and young alike. These people took on various roles, such as treasurer,

vice president, parade coordinator, publicity coordinator and many others,

to make each year’s Alpine Days happen. These people are the true heroes

when it comes to pulling together an event such as this. Most of these

volunteers have been part of the planning committee for many years. We’ve had a

lot of fun, some great laughs and felt a real sense of community as each

festival weekend finally arrived. It really takes a team of people who love

being part of their community to pull this off.

Which is the reason I’m writing this letter. Many of the volunteers

and officers of the North Bend Festival Committee will be moving on to

other activities and have resigned their participation to support next year’s

Alpine Days Festival. I, too, have resigned as president of the committee to tend

to my family responsibilities.

The festival committee needs a new group of volunteers to carry

on this community tradition, and keep it going.

Next year’s festival will be held July 27-29, a little earlier than in

previous years. So planning for Alpine Days 2001 will need to start

right away. There are a host of committee chairs and positions where an

individual can contribute their special talent. The positions for the

committee officers are listed below:

President — oversees the entire planning of Alpine Days.

Vice President — works with the City departments as

needed to coordinate posting bonds, road closures, city permits and other

needed responsibilities.

Secretary — maintains meeting minutes and action

items, monitors e-mail and and the voice mail hotline, writes and issues

invitations and thank you letters.

Treasurer — handles and tracks all money and donations,

accounts for funds and bills, provides monthly report out of assets to

committee.

Other chairs and committees include the following:

Vendor chair and committee — to coordinate the food

booths, arts & crafts and children’s events.

Parade chair and committee — to coordinate all

participants and logistics of the parade.

Fund-raiser chair and committee — to work with our

sponsors and raise funds to support the festival.

Hospitality coordinator — to arrange food and beverages for

volunteers, special guests and hosts for the opening ceremony.

Recreation chair and committee — to coordinate additional

surrounding events, i.e., golf or baseball tournaments, fun run, bike

events, skate park, etc.

Publicity chair and committee — to develop all promotional and

advertising plans and material and act as dignitary host.

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for individuals to

contribute and keep our heritage going. This year was the 30th anniversary

for Alpine Days, and this is only because of the many, many volunteers

who, over the years, have been part of this great tradition.

Be one of those “heroes” and become a volunteer for Alpine

Days 2001. Don’t let this 30th year be the last.
