Rosemary Coverdale Munson | Obituary

Age 97, Rosemary passed peacefully on a day of rest, Sunday May 30, 2021. She was at her home in North Bend, Washington and in the company of her children.

Rosemary was born October 12, 1923 in Snoqualmie to Emma McHenry Willard and Bert Willard. She was the middle child of seven and grew up on a small farm during the Great Depression. At Christmas there was always a choice to be made—a turkey for Christmas dinner or a bus ticket for Grandpa Willard to come visit from Oregon. Grandpa always got a ticket! The responsibility and joy of family was instilled in her from early days. Her large extended family was her treasure and her home became the center for holiday and family functions throughout her life, keeping the Willard clan close even to this day.

In 1941, Rosemary married Richard B Coverdale (Dick) and he was swiftly drafted into the Army during WWII. They lived in Bremerton and welcomed their first two children, Carol and Garrison. Following the war they returned to make the Valley their lifelong home, and daughter Virginia and son John were born. Dick was a native of Arizona and vacations were often road trips to visit the Coverdale family in the Phoenix area. Two adults and four children in a Woodie Wagon!

Dick was an iron worker and project manager for BECK Construction and often worked in Alaska, leaving Rosemary to manage all things in his absence—home maintenance, rental property and four rambunctious children. Dick retired in 1989 and they travelled widely including Europe and Asia and they wintered annually in Yuma, Arizona until Dick passed in 1999.

In 2001, Rosemary met and married William E. Munson and they lived happily in North Bend and continued to travel and winter in Arizona until his death in 2012.

Rosemary was generous and outgoing and made friends easily, holding them close for decades. She loved to read, bake and garden. She was an accomplished artist and her garden iris were often the subject of her watercolors. Her family enjoyed receiving her hand-painted greeting cards.

Rosemary was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Carol Francis and five of her siblings—Paige, Ralph, Alberta, Clara (Peggy) and Marilynn. She is survived by her brother Michael Willard and her children, Garrison Coverdale (Merrilee), Ginny Clark (Tom) and John Coverdale (Teri). By many much loved grand, great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. And her dog, Wee Willie.

She loved the Lord! Remembrances to Mt. Si Lutheran Church, North Bend, WA.
