Marlane Ann (Ortis) Martin | Obituary

Marlane Ann (Ortis) into our Lord’s Loving Hands at her home in Kent WA on December 23rd, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was 75 years old.

Marlane was born at Columbus Hospital in Seattle, Washington, on December 12, 1947, to Ray and Peggy Ortis. She was raised in the beautiful Snoqualmie Valley. She attended Snoqualmie Falls Grade school, Snoqualmie Elementary school, and Mt Si High School – graduating 1966. She remained in the valley until she was married in 1970 and then moved to Auburn, WA.

Marlane attended St Joseph School of Nursing in Tacoma from 1966 to 1968. She then transferred to Green River Community College and completed her schooling to obtain her LPN License graduating in 1969. She started working at Auburn General Hospital shortly after graduation where her future sister-in-law Jeanne Hitchcock introduced her to her brother Bill Martin. Marlane met the love of her life in February, and they were married September 5, 1970. Bill and Marlane were married for 52 years.

Marlane worked at Auburn General Hospital for a few years before leaving to raise her family. She returned some years later before she took a job with the Federal Way school district as ECEAP Health Coordinator in early 90’s. She enjoyed having weekends and summers off!! She retired in June 2013 to help in the care of her father Ray Ortis.

Marlane loved traveling to Hawaii, camping especially the campfire stories and smores, salmon fishing, playing Bunco with friends, playing Dummy Rummy, card games, family trips to Birch Bay, going out to lunch with her fellow co-workers, going to the Seattle Mariner games and enjoying the garlic fries and especially spending time with her family. She made the best potato salad, pot roast and Christmas cookies.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Peggy Ortis.

Her survivors include her husband William (Bill) Martin of Kent, her sister Carmen Dunlap (Robb) of Tacoma, daughters Trina Finney (Sean) of Federal Way, Deanne Butler (Kevin) of Renton, Dawnell Schroeder (Steve) of Federal Way, and Brittany Snyder (Jeremy) of Enumclaw. She had 13 grandchildren, Katie, Kevin, Tyler, Trysten, Jessica, Ashley, Justin, Jeshua, Kyle, David, Ryan, Dade, Matthew and 6 great grandchildren, Alana, Addie, Saeliia, Aria, Naomi, and Greyson.

Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held on Wednesday January 11th 2023 at 11am at St Vincent de Paul Parish address 30525 8th Ave S, Federal Way, WA 98003.
