December 22, 1945- November 14, 2024
Lynden Warren Hughes Mathews, born in Anoka, Minnesota on December 22, 1945, died at his home in North Bend, WA. on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from complications stemming from the disease, Amyloidosis. He was 78 years old.
Raised in Oroville, he attended Oroville schools and graduated in 1964. Lynden liked music, played trumpet in the HS band and guitar; enjoyed sports, but after two broken legs playing football, and nearly losing his life after being hit by a baseball to his nose that severed an artery, he was forced to retire from sports by the 10th grade!
After High School, Lynden attended Eastern Washington State College, as a Music-major, until he was drafted into the army in 1967 and subsequently sent to Vietnam where he was wounded by sniper-fire. He spent his remaining military assignment in the Military Police stationed in Japan, Korea and later in Barstow, CA.
While in the military, he married Tonia Kimberlin (1968-1972), and together, welcomed a son, Lynden Quinn, in 1970.
Eventually, Lynden moved to the Snoqualmie Valley, Washington area where he worked for Warehouser Corporation and later, joined the Boeing Corporation in Renton, Washington; there, he worked as a Master Machinist for almost 50 years. Boeing was quite fond of Lyn as were his many friends, who shared in the Boeing experience.
He enjoyed playing his guitar with family members throughout his life; and took great pride in collecting guitars to give away to school kids or to anyone wanting to learn guitar.
In 1978, Lynden married Sharon Bayley, his wife of 46 years, who preceded him in death the spring of 2024. He is survived by sister-in-law, Jo Mathews, (Lloyd Mathews); brother, DuWayne Mathews, (Janet Mathews); sister, Aimee Dull, (Alan Dull); his sons, Quinn, (Christa); Bob (Carrie), Marc, (Angie) and Daughter Julie, (Howard). 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren
A dedicated family man, whose heart was “as big as all outdoors”, Lynden was loved and respected by all who knew him.
The family plans to bring both brothers home to Oroville in the spring 2025 where they will be laid to rest with other family in the Oroville Riverview Cemetary.
