James Edward Smith | Obituary

1966-2023

I’m not suppose to be writing my brother’s obituary today. November 7th was going to be an early Thanksgiving get together. Unfortunately, James passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 11/3/23 at his home in Toledo, WA.

James Edward Smith was born on June 15th of 1966 to the proud parents of Edward Archie Smith and Sylvia Lou Smith in the small town of Towsend, Montana. James was raised in North Bend, WA alongside his 3 older siblings, Randy Jerome Smith (deceased), Cindy Jo Smith, and Kathleen Marie Smith- Webb. James never married or had any children. However, he had his pet dog, Rudy, whom he cared for dearly. In the journey of life, Rudy had left a lasting impression on James.

James was a hard-working individual and had several different fields of work. In his younger years James baled hay in Ellensburg, WA. Setting chokers in the logging industry was no tough match for James. Seeking out new opportunities, James landed a position with D.O.T working nights and moving up to the day shift. In 2004 James accepted a promotion at L&I and was there until his death. James truly loved working as an L&I logging consultation supervisor right up to his tragic death.

When James was not filling his supervisor duties, he loved spending his free time fishing with his best friends Larry Poland and Tim Colson. James had a passion for cooking, playing guitar, gardening, target practicing, listening to music, and spending time with his friends and loved ones. We will never ever be the same with our beloved James in heaven. Gone from our sight, but never our memory. Gone from our touch, but never our hearts.

At James’ request we will have a graveside service in White Sulphur Springs, MT in June 2024. James’ ashes will be buried and laid to rest as close to his dad as we can get. Please make any donations to your favorite charity in honor of James. In loving memory of a life so beautifully lived and a heart so deeply loved.
