Donald S. Korsmo

He Is A Man…

He is a man who has been married twice, but is married to the love of his life, Gloria, and has been for 35 of his 72 years. He has 4 grown children, Don, Bobbi, Kathy and Kris. But he would say he is a man who has 7 children, because he has embraced our husbands and wives as his own. Rina, Michael, and Ken hold a special place in this man’s heart. All of them are successful and happy. He got his job done. He is a man who loves the river, and taught his children and grandchildren to do the same. He is a man who can take a grassy canvas and create a beautiful landscape. He is a man with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grand-children: Amy (and Scott), Nicole (and Kevin), Randi, Chase, Devon, Dave, Christopher, Kaden, Riley and Lane; Hannah, Jordyn, Kason, Matthew and Camryn. He is a man who loves John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies; a man who loves design and architecture; and someone who can take a vision in his mind and build it. He is a man who loves a good steak, a good drink, a good laugh and good friends. He is a man who built a grocery business with his father, learned to cut a steak to order with a smile, or sarcasm, whichever was the most appropriate. He is a man who has two brothers, Jack and Rod; one he has played with since being a child, and one he has known only as an adult. He is a man who has had to bury two parents whom he loved and cared for when they couldn’t anymore. He is a man who provided for his family through brutal times, who ran home to stop his daughters from killing one another, who rebuilt garage doors, and re-roofed homes to pay for damage his youngest child did to her car. He has built homes for his family, and homes for other people’s families. He is the kind of man who will run into a storm to stop the roof from leaking, who will work 20 hours a day to provide a home that would work for an expanded family. He is a man that opens his home in the middle of the night to provide shelter for his children when they lost theirs, and will open his home to house his aging often challenging mother-in-law. He is a man who loves his children, loves his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, and loves his wife. He is a man I cherish, a man I honor, and a man I call my father. You may do the same, call him the same. His name is Don Korsmo. This is not the whole story, just a part of the story. (Written by daughter Kristina Wentworth on the occasion of Don’s 70th birthday.) Donald S. Korsmo was born on December 8, 1937, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to John and Doris Korsmo. He moved to the Seattle area in 1942. In his teens he moved to North Bend and graduated from Mt. Si High School in 1956.He is survived by his wife, Gloria, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be forever missed. A private family graveside service was held. A memorial reception in Don’s memory will be held at a later date. Friends are invited to share memories and sign the family’s on-line guest book at www.flintofts.com.
