Drivers who can get home before the evening rush Tuesday got a reason for an early start: The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory warning of an oncoming snowstorm in Western Washington and the Cascade foothills.

The warning, posted on SnoqualmieWeather.com, states that one to three inches of snow, more in the foothills, are expected late Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 11, during the afternoon commute. Snow will change to rain around midnight. Winter travel conditions are expected.

Freezing rain is possible during the change from snow to rain. Freezing rain, which turns to ice on contact with the ground, is worse for motorists than snow.

Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities.
