Valley Record Staff win five awards in state newspaper contest

Awards come from the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association Better Newspaper Contest

Snoqualmie Valley Record staff members were recognized earlier this month as part of the 2023 Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA) Better Newspaper Contest.

The WNPA is professional trade organization representing community newspapers across Washington.

Valley Record General Manager and Publisher William Shaw and reporter Conor Wilson collectively won five awards for newswriting and advertising as part of the annual statewide local newspaper contest.

Wilson won first-place awards in both the Long News Story (Group 1) category for “Fall City mulls moving downtown totem pole,” and Business News Story (Group 1) for “Carnation Farms closure highlights lack of resources.”

Wilson also finished second in the Crime & Court Story (Group 1) category for “Documents detail fatal police shooting in North Bend Park.”

On the advertising side, Shaw took home a first-place award in the Single Advertiser, Half-page or Larger (Groups 1-3) category. He also won third-place in the statewide ‘Ad of the Year’ contest for a Remlinger Farms concert promotion.
