SNOQUALMIE – The Snoqualmie City Council added two new council members this week to bring the number of people representing the city to seven.

Charles Peterson and Katherine Prewitt were both nominated at the council’s Oct. 25 meeting and sworn in with unanimous votes.

Nine of the 11 applicants for the position were interviewed at the City Council meeting. Candidates Tony Yanez, who had applied for a position but was unable to attend because of a business engagement, and Susan Ranf, who applied but was not present at the meeting, were not interviewed.

Peterson, a former Snoqualmie council member, mayor and member of the city’s Planning Commission, was appointed first and then confirmed with a 5-0 vote.

Peterson was then one of the six votes that unanimously confirmed the appointment of Prewitt. Because she had to deal with a death in the family, Prewitt’s name was not on the original list of candidates released last week, but the council asked that her name be considered.

Most cities in Washington are required to have seven-member councils once their populations hit 5,000. Snoqualmie received census data in June that said the city has 5,110 residents.
