Surprise storm cuts historic re-enactment short; Sunday events at Meadowbrook Farm canceled

Re-enactors from the Washington Civil War Association lost tents, gear and supplies in an unexpected storm Saturday, while camped at Meadowbrook Farm.

A few people had bruises from being hit by flying debris, said Paul Timmerman, coordinator of the event. There were no serious injuries, but many people were shaken by the storm, and ready to strike camp.

“We’re going ahead with this afternoon’s battle, but then we’re packing up,” Timmerman said. “We can’t even protect ourselves (from the elements),” he said, because of all the gear that was lost in the tornado-like storm. “If you looked over those trees, the whole sky was filled with flying canvas, poles, bedding.”

None of the events planned for tomorrow at the farm will be happening.

Although disappointed by the abrupt ending of the planned weekend of events, Timmerman said he was encouraged by the turnout and hoped to bring the Battle of Snoqualmie back next year.
