Two adults and a child were rescued from the roof of their vehicle Sunday afternoon on Southeast Reinig Road, near 396 Drive Southeast in North Bend. The vehicle had stalled in rising floodwaters.

A 9-1-1 call came in at 3:32 p.m. from a person on flood patrol for King County. The caller reported that a vehicle was submerged, with three people standing on the roof. Police and fire personnel from North Bend were dispatched to the scene. The Snoqualmie Fire Department was also called, but the call was cancelled while the responders were en route.

Police and Fire arrived and determined that the vehicle was partially submerged, but the water was rising and the vehicle was becoming bouyant. By the time the three people had been rescued from the roof at 3:52 p.m., the water had risen to the vehicle’s windshield.

Snoqualmie Tow pulled the vehicle from the water at 5:48 p.m.

Firefighters asked police to close the road to prevent other vehicles from getting stuck.

This area often sees stranded vehicles during floods, a North Bend firefighter explained, because the area is so low, drivers don’t realize how deep the water is. Usually, the drivers can leave the vehicle and walk out of the water, leaving the vehicle behind until the water subsides again.

Reinig Road was re-opened at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14.
