Local gymnasts on a roll

Several local gymnasts have been showing their stuff at various meets. In the Chicago-style meet held at Gymnastics East, Georgia Reynolds of North Bend took first overall. She scored 9.425 on vault, 9.5 on bars, 9.25 on beam and 9.2 on floor. Teammate Miranda Roberts, also from North Bend, scored 34.325 for 15th overall with a 9.225 on vault, 9.1 on bars, 7.4 on the beam and 8.6 on floor. Both compete as level seven gymnasts.

At the Great West Gym Fest recently held in Couer d’Alene, Idaho, three local gymnasts competed in level four for Gymnastics East. Cassidy McDowell of Preston scored a 37.625 in all-around, for third place. She scored a 9.6 on vault, 9.5 on bars, 9.15 on the beam and 9.4 on the floor.

Snoqualmie’s Sarah Wheeler scored 13th in all-around with a 36.05. She scored 9.3 on vault, 8.8 on bars, 8.65 on the beam and 9.3 on floor.

Finally, Amanda Dumont of Preston scored 37th in all-around with a 34.55. She scored 9.15 on vault, 8.3 on bars, 8.5 on beam and 8.6 on floor.

At the Blooms and Blossoms meet held at Gymnastics East in Bellevue, several local gymnasts did well. In the 8-year-old and younger group, Mallory Fortier from Snoqualmie scored a 34.925, for second place. Miah Batton of Fall City scored 34.475 for sixth place. In the 9-year-old group, Snoqualmie’s Wheeler scored a 35.60 for third place in all-around and Hailey Johnson, a North Bend resident, scored 34.550 for ninth place. In the 10-year-old group, Dumont scored an eighth in all-around with a score of 33.30. Finally, in the 11-year-old and older group, McDowell scored a 35.875 in all-around for second place.


Soccer tryouts set for March 18, 19

The Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association will be hosting tryouts for Cascade Select (SnVYSA’s advanced development program) March 18 and 19 (and some mid-week dates) for age groups U11 through U18 (born between Aug. 1, 1995, through May 31, 1989). For information, check the SnVYSA Web site at www.snvysa.org (click on “Clubs” and then “Cascade Select”). There is no fee to participate in the tryouts. Online registration for tryouts is available.

Mount Si Cheer Try-outs for 2006-2007

Mount Si High School is looking for people interested in trying out for cheerleading. Eligible candidates are current eighth-grade students up to 11th grade. The try-outs begin on Monday, March 20 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the upper gymnasium. Next year, the squad is moving to seasonal cheer. There will be a fall squad and a winter/competition squad. If the candidate is in a fall sport and would like to try-out for the winter season this is now an option. Try-outs for both squads will be held in March. There will be no fall try-outs this year.

Sammamish Rowing accepting applications

Sammamish Rowing Association is currently accepting applications for its April and May learn-to-row sessions. Classes begin April 4 and meet twice a week for each four-week session. The cost is $75. Three different class times will be offered in April. Four options will be available from May to October. No experience is required and all ages welcome.

Mixed results at jamborees

The Mount Si Wildcats’ softball team split two games at their jamboree last Saturday at Mount Si. In game one, Juanita scored four times in the third inning off of Wildcat reliever Tracey Barclay to post a 4-0 win, and in game two, starting pitcher Kandis Clesson struck out six in a 1-0 Mount Si win over Liberty. Each contest lasted three innings.

“It was awesome. It was so much fun. I’m glad to be a part of this group of girls,” freshman outfielder Melissa Webster said.

Mount Si’s baseball jamboree last Friday at Sumner was snowed out after one inning.
