Snoqualmie Valley school board to weigh middle school bond plan Thursday

The Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors is expected to green light a capital facilities bond this week for a Feb. 8, 2011, election.

The board meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the district office. On the agenda is approval of a 20-year, $59.8 million bond for construction of a new replacement middle school and improvements to other facilities.

Superintendent Joel Aune recommended the proposal at an Oct. 7 meeting.

Roughly $49 million would pay for the new middle school, needed when the current Snoqualmie Middle School campus is converted to a freshman campus is 2013. About $10 million would upgrade buildings at Mount Si High School, Fall City, North Bend, Opstad Elementaries and Chief Kanim and Twin Falls Middle Schools.

The estimated tax rate is about 59 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
