Snoqualmie Valley Record wins two awards for news reporting

The 2021 Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspaper Contest winners were announced during a virtual convention Oct. 8.

Several titles in Sound Publishing’s King County group received recognition, including the Snoqualmie Valley Record. Former reporter Aaron Kunkler won first place in the Government Story category (Group 1) for “This is Snoqualmie’s mine-resistant armored vehicle.” The June 2020 story details how the military truck has been deployed a handful of times as part of a SWAT team and in rescue operations, but otherwise sits largely unused in the Snoqualmie Police Department’s vehicle lot.

Kunkler received second place in the News Story, Long category (Group 1) for “California man causes false Antifa scare.” The June 2020 story details how a conspiracy theory website ran pictures of North Bend locals, accusing them of being agitators.
