The Snoqualmie City Council reviewed a new proposed ordinance related to motorized foot scooters and other wheeled recreational devices at the Aug. 14 city council meeting. City Council decided to make amendments to the ordinance before voting on it at the next meeting Aug. 28.

The issue of whether motorized scooters and other wheeled devices are allowed on the sidewalk, as well as how young children’s mountable bike seats and trailers affixed to wheeled devices would fit into the ordinance, will be addressed before the next meeting.

Currently, the city of Snoqualmie’s only legal requirement is for bicycle riders to wear helmets. The new ordinance would allow police officers to provide citations to persons younger than 16 years who are not in compliance with the ordinance in order to engage such a person’s parent or guardian and to provide for education in the safe operation of motorized foot scooters and wheeled recreational devices.
