A King County Sheriff’s deputy shot a 35-year-old Snoqualmie man after he tried to hit her with his van at about 2 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, near Snoqualmie.

The man suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.  The deputy, a seven-year veteran, was uninjured.

According to reports from the sheriff’s office, the man is well known to sheriff’s deputies working near Snoqualmie.

On Wednesday, a deputy tried to arrest the man suspect from the same van on outstanding arrest warrants, but the man fled in his vehicle. Deputies pursued the man but called off the chase when he drove into a heavily forested area.

That night, two King County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect’s vehicle at Southeast Reinig Road and 428th Avenue Southeast. When the two deputies approached the van, they spotted the man inside, then he drove his van at one of the deputies, who shot at least once at the driver.

The suspect crashed his van about 50 feet away and was arrested. He was alone in the vehicle.

Following standard practice, the deputy will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  The King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives are investigating the ongoing case.
