Snoqualmie’s mayor and city staff are in negotiations with a developer, architect and construction company on the costs of designing and building the new YMCA and Community Center.

The Snoqualmie City Council voted Monday, July 26, to begin talks with developer Wallace Properties, Inc., of Bellevue, architects Lance Mueller & Associates of Seattle and GLY Construction of Bellevue.

The city’s negotiating team, which includes Mayor Matt Larson, City Administrator Bob Larson, City Attorney Pat Anderson and Parks Director Gwen Voelpel, are discussing terms and conditions with the three companies for financing, construction and equipping the center, slated for Community Park on Snoqualmie Ridge.

Staff selected the three companies. The city has earmarked $3.9 million for the YMCA project.

“We need them to devise the project budget—how much are we going to give to the developer, to the architect, how much the building is going to cost,” said Bob Larson. “If things go smoothly, we could have the paperwork in front of the council inside of 45 days.”

The final design will be set after the city reviews plans; residents will have an opportunity to comment on them prior to approval.

Construction is slated for spring of 2011.
