Snoqualmie Community Park splash pad breaks ground

The water feature is expected to open in July.

Work is underway at Snoqualmie Community Park to prepare for the city’s first splash pad, which is expected to open in July 2024.

The $1.5 million multi-purpose splash pad design was approved by the Snoqualmie City Council in August 2023, with a resolution authorizing a purchase order with Aquatix by Landscape Structures for the design, features, mechanical components and complete installation of the splash pad.

“Everyone I know who has kids about the same age as mine are super stoked, even older kids,” said Snoqualmie resident Emily Anderson during the public comment period. “There has been somewhat of a dearth of a place to take our kids during the hot summer days… this will be really great. We are all really excited about the design of it and can’t wait for it to come about.”

Working with Aquatix, the city landed on a custom design incorporating the Snoqualmie Valley’s trees, waterfalls and wildlife, according to the city.

The splash pad, fully funded by the City of Snoqualmie, will replace the existing basketball court, the relocation of which is being evaluated during the ongoing Snoqualmie Parks, Recreation, Open Spaces and Trials Master Plan project.

“It will run unattended because there is no standing water. It’s all water that is sprayed and goes straight down the drain,” said Snoqualmie City Administrator Mike Chambless during the April 2 Snoqualmie Parks and Public Works meeting. “For at least the first month or two, staff will be going there regularly just to check things until we get the system balanced. Ultimately, it will boil down to staff just visiting the site twice daily to check the numbers and ensure everything is OK.”

Concrete seating will be installed around the splash pad. The restrooms and adjacent parking will remain the same.
