Snoqualmie's City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to place a levy "lid lift" measure on the November ballot for police, fire and emergency medical services.

Snoqualmie’s City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to place a levy “lid lift” measure on the November ballot for police, fire and emergency medical services.

The measure would authorize the city to increase property taxes beyond the 1 percent maximum, or “levy lid” allowed by the state. If voters approve the measure, the city of Snoqualmie could increase its regular property tax rate by up to 23 cents per $1,000 of a property’s assessed value, to a maximum of $2.54 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

Funds from this levy would be used to hire an additional firefighter and two additional police officers.

For the owner of the average $530,000 Snoqualmie home, the cost would be about $120 per year or $10 per month. For a $265,000 Snoqualmie home, the cost would be about $61 per year or $5 per month.
