New Snoqualmie City Council committee assignments for 2006 were made during the Jan. 9 regular meeting. Council members are involved as follows: Community and Economic Affairs Committee will include Katherine Prewitt, chair, with members Maria Henriksen and Jeff MacNichols; Finance and Administration will have Maria Henriksen as chair, with members Katherine Prewitt and Kingston Wall; Planning and Parks will include Kingston Wall, chair, and Bryan Holloway and Bob Jeans as members; Jeff MacNichols will chair the Public Safety Committee that includes members Charles Peterson and Katherine Prewitt; and Charles Peterson will chair the Public Works Committee that includes members Bob Jeans and Bryan Holloway. Councilmember Maria Henriksen was appointed mayor pro tem for 2006.

At 5 p.m. on Jan. 27, there will be a Destination Development workshop at the Snoqualmie Fire Station at 37600 S.E. Snoqualmie Parkway, Snoqualmie. The meeting is open to the public. This will be the last opportunity for the public to participate in the process before the plan is revised and set before council for approval at a to-be-determined date.

The Snoqualmie Parkway has put up temporary directional signage as part of the “Pilot Sign Project.” Based on the Destination Development recommendation to develop more visitor-friendly directional signs, the city is testing the template model for an undetermined amount of time. The signs were recently redesigned for increased readability at 40 mph. There will be six pilot signs put into place once a specific design is selected by the City Council. The signs will be made permanent when a final design is agreed upon. It was announced at the council meeting on Jan. 9 that the Village Food Market grocery store currently under construction on Snoqualmie Ridge is expected to be finished by March of this year.

The next City Council meeting starts at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, at the Snoqualmie Fire Station.
