Early results in Tuesday’s primary election had local school and parks measures narrowly passing.
Si View Parks District’s $6.7 million request will fund repairs and upgrades at Si View Park and Community Center and build a new park at Tollgate Farm. With 38 percent of ballots counted, that measure had 62.53 percent approval; 2,240 district residents voted “yes” on the measure, while 1,342 residents voted “no.” The parks measure met the 60 percent supermajority requirement.
“That’s a great place to start,” a cautiously optimistic Si View Parks Director Travis Stombaugh said of the lead. “That’s about as close as I want it to be.”
If trends hold, this will be the first bond ever passed in the district.
“It’s historic,” Stombaugh said. It will also bring big changes to Si View, he added.
Supplemental levy
Riverview’s $3 million supplemental maintenance and operations levy will replace reduced state funding while keeping class sizes manageable. Results from Monday, with 41 percent of ballots counted, showed a 51.08 percent approval rate; 2,485 district residents voted “yes” for the levy, while 2,380 residents voted “no.” School levies require a simple majority to pass.
