John Bomar has been named the principal of the Riverview Learning Center. He brings 17 years of experience in education and school administration to Riverview, having previously worked as assistant principal for Daffodil Valley and Maple Lawn Elementary Schools in the Sumner School District and as a counselor, dean of students, teacher, and coach for Rainier and Olympic Middle Schools in the Auburn School District.

“Education has been a focus of my life because I was always taught to serve others growing up,” said Bomar. “Originally, I thought I would be a police officer when I entered college, but as I continued through my education, I turned my focus on helping students, hopefully before they ever got into trouble.”

In addition to his duties as principal of the Riverview Learning Center, Bomar will help with teacher evaluations within the district and be a catalyst in helping Riverview’s emerging district-wide focus on equity and access for all students.

“My entire adult life has been centered on pouring into others through teaching, coaching, ministry, counseling, and school administration,” Bomar adds. “My one goal has been to help children and adolescents better understand and succeed in the world we live in.”

The Riverview Learning Center is home to the Riverview School District’s four alternative learning programs, PARADE, CLIP/CLEAR, and CHOICE, serving more than 160 students in grades K-12. The PARADE program was one of five alternative programs in the state to earn School of Distinction status from the Center of Educational Effectiveness in the fall of 2015.

Bomar replaces Christopher Mirecki, who departs the Riverview School District after serving for 11 years as a teacher and school administrator.
