Residents of North Bend have one more chance to give their input on the city’s Downtown Master Plan before it goes to the city council.
The public is invited to comment on the plan at the city planning commission’s meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at City Hall.
The Downtown Master Plan is intended to guide North Bend’s revitalization and economic growth for the next 20 years. Among projects with priority status are:
* Dedicating 1 percent of annual capital expenditures to public art in the commercial core district
* Establishing a downtown advisory committee
* Promoting and expanding the facade improvement program
* Establishing a city-wide signage plan
* Improving Riverfront Park
* Increasing awareness of and access to Depot Park
* Improving the link between the Depot and North Bend Way
* Improving the appearance of McClellan, including burying utilities, eliminating or screening dumpsters, and improving rear building facades and entrances
* Evaluating one-way conversions along Main and Sydney
* Reducing pavement width on North Bend Way west of Ballarat
* Installing colored or textured crosswalks at key intersections
* Developing an alternate route through the downtown core
The city contracted urban planners and traffic engineers to help design the plan last June. North Bend also formed a task force of key stakeholders, and community members were invited to weigh in.
