You don’t have to be a professional to shoot amazing photographs of the Snoqualmie Valley.

In fact, the Valley shutterbugs who took part in the Snoqualmie Valley Record’s second-annual Reader Photo Contest can hold their heads high in the knowledge that their work could easily grace a postcard, calendar or other scenic collection.

More than 60 photographers contributed 165 photos to the contest this year. Photos sent in by readers included scenes of Valley wildlife from insects to elk, farm life, and historic trains, tracks and trestles. Plentiful were mountain views, scenes from Rattlesnake Lake, and dozens of perspectives of mighty Mount Si. Scenes showed all seasons, from summer sunsets to winter floods.

As always, it is difficult to choose a winner, but a vote by the staff of the Record winnowed down the entries.

First place goes to Nomi Field for her shot of weathered tree stumps along a snowy Rattlesnake Lake shoreline. Second place goes to Dusty Cavaliere, for her shot of a misty Valley morning. Third place goes to Terry Adams for his shot of elk running from a descending helicopter at Centennial Field.
