Tonight’s (Tuesday, May 1) North Bend City Council meeting will include a report from Police Chief Mark Toner and a King County Sheriff’s Deputy on last week’s murders of Lynnettee and Kaylene Keller and the results of that investigation.

In a message to the community on Monday, City Administrator Duncan Wilson said Toner had been asked to speak, since the tragic events were the subject of much speculation and public interest. He invited interested community members to attend the meeting, 7 p.m. at the Mount Si Senior Center, 411 Main Ave.

“We do not anticipate that Mark has all the answers at this point nor do we believe that he is authorized to talk about all of the elements yet,” Wilson wrote.

The incident began Sunday, April 22, when a fire was reported at the Keller home. The Keller women were found inside the home, dead of gunshot wounds to the head. The family’s cat and dog were also shot dead. Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set, and police began a search for Peter Keller, who was later named a suspect in the killings. They located Keller in a bunker on Rattlesnake Ridge Friday morning, April 27, and after nearly a 24-hour standoff, raided the bunker and found him, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Toner also addressed the council following a March incident involving a resident shooting and killing a man who’d broken into his home.
