Snoqualmie Police are looking for a suspect in the bomb threat that led to the evacuation of Snoqualmie Middle School students and staff on Tuesday, March 4.

The written message “A bomb will explode at 2 p.m.” was discovered in a girls’ bathroom. After a thorough sweep of the school by law enforcement officers, the threat was declared a hoax.

Police gave handwriting samples to the school for investigation, but it’s unlikely the suspect will be found, said Snoqualmie Police spokeswoman Becky Munson.

Students were evacuated the morning the threat was discovered. They walked to Mount Si High School, where they waited in the gym. Parents were alerted to the incident through the district’s emergency phone message system, and had the option to pick up their children before the end of the school day. Students whose parents couldn’t pick them up waited until regular release time.

After school activities were canceled for the day, but school resumed as normal on Wednesday, March 5.

“The staff did a great job implementing our emergency plan. It is just unfortunate that nearly 600 students and staff were inconvenienced by the actions of an individual,” SMS Principal Ruth Moen stated in a press release. “In the coming days, we plan to reinforce care and responsibility for our school community and each other.”
