Plenty of shovels help break ground

Shovels dug in and earth flew as Fall City celebrated the groundbreaking Wednesday, June 13, for its bigger, better new library.

“The library is the heart of this community,” said Bill Ptacek, director of the King County Library System (KCLS), who joined Fall City librarians, contractors and the architect, library boosters and book-loving children at the site of the old Fall City library, now demolished to make way for construction. The new library is expected to open in early 2008.

“This is a little weird, to see our library gone,” said Vanessa Allen, president of the Fall City Community Association. “This library has been such a great part of our community. It’s been a safe place for our kids to explore the world around them. It’s been a great community place where we can all catch up on what’s going on.
