Blooming annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and herbs will be among plants for sale at Mount Si High School’s greenhouse from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10. All proceeds go toward funding school programs, including field trips to the zoo and the Weyerhauser bonsai exhibit.

The plants have been cared for by Mount Si teacher Nick Kurka’s horticulture students, including Matthew Case, a junior who plans to study plants in college to prepare for a career in botany. He’s enjoyed working on the plant sale project for a second year.

“I love the pure beauty of the plants,” he said.

Among Kaiya Jones’ favorite flowers were the pendular “Swingtime” Fuchsias.

“These pink ones are gorgeous! They look like little bows,” the junior said.

Kurka’s horticulture students also put together the plant baskets seen around the city of Snoqualmie. He said that project gives students a sense of pride in themselves and their community.

“When they’re going down the road, the kids can see their plants and say, ‘I did that basket. I was a part of that,’” Kurka said.
