A pilot escaped injury after flipping his plane onto a Snoqualmie River sandbar last week.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash of the single-engine Piper PA-18, which happened just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, near Northeast Carnation Road.

The lone occupant and pilot, an Anchorage, Alaska, man, was reportedly flying without a flight plan, media reports stated.

FAA Spokesman Mike Fergus said it could take weeks to identify the cause of the accident.

Small-plane flights using visual flight rules, without a flight plan, are fairly common, Fergus said.
