Picture perfect

Brandon Asheim, 8, of Carnation holds the award-winning photo he took of himself saluting behind the American flag. Asheim, who attends Carnation Elementary School, won a first-place award from the Washington State Parent Teacher Association along with an Award of Merit for Intermediate Photography from the National PTA organization. More than 20,000 children from Washington state participated in the program called "Reflections," in which students submitted works in literature, music, photography and the visual arts for recognition. The theme for 2001-2002 was "I hold in my hand ..."
