Accountability, in finances, transparency, and public outreach was the theme of the third and final Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce candidate forum on Oct. 16. This time, candidates running for positions on the Hospital District Commission answered the public’s questions.
Now through Dec. 7 is the time for people age 65 and older to make changes to their medical health plan coverage. To help with the process, the Mount Si Senior Center will host two information sessions, presented by a state health insurance benefit advisor, on open enrollment.

Two meetings this week should help Snoqualmie Valley School District staff finalize plans for populating its sixth elementary school, now under construction. The meetings, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at North Bend Elementary School, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesay, Oct. 21, at the Mount Si High School Freshman Campus, will cover the two elementary school boundary change proposals, Options B2 and C2, now being considered by the school district.
Snoqualmie Valley Moose Lodge hosts a children’s Halloween party, noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the lodge, 108 Sydney Ave., North Bend. The event includes a carnival, prizes, craft activities, a cake walk, and lunch.
Women and children in crisis will benefit from the donation of a surplus van from the King County Metro Vanpool Program.
Valley Animal Partners will host its sixth annual Chili Showdown and dessert auction, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at the SnoValley Eagles, Snoqualmie. This year’s auction will feature the traiditional desserts, along with other homemade goodies.
Daisy and Brownie Girl Scout Troop #44460 is assembling “blessing bags” for distribution to homeless people now through Nov. 3, and collecting donations for the bags.
While most students get nervous or scared by the prospect of public speaking, the debate team competes in it. The Mount Si Speech and Debate team, a very successful club at Mount Si High School, will host a public showcase debate to raise money to travel to tournaments, raise awareness and possibly attract more students to the club.
The Snoqualmie Valley Winter Shelter for the homeless is now hiring staff, training volunteers and finalizing potential locations for the temporary shelter.
Proudly bearing the virtual symbol of old suburbia, the Station Wagon podcast got off to a slow start with its launch earlier this year, much like a real car stuck in rush hour traffic. Lately though, it’s been gaining an audience, and, at the risk of drawing derisive snorts from both of its creators, picking up speed.
In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 4 to 10, the Snoqualmie Fire Department has devoted the entire month of October to investing in local elementary schools to educate children about fire safety. Firefighters are joined by Sparky the Fire Dog. Their key message of this year is on smoke alarms and to be aware it’s all about location.
