North Bend’s Pet Place Market celebrates 15-years, will host sale this weekend

Pet Place Market in North Bend Celebrated its 15 year anniversary and grand re-opening this week, with a ribbon cutting and new expanded space.

To celebrate, Pet Place Market will be having a 20% off sale on the entire store on April 23 and 24. The celebration will also feature vendors, giveaways and raffles – including for six months of free pet food.

Owners Chris and Amy Hawkins purchased the store in 2016 and have progressively added more space over the years. In 2019, they opened a second location in Anacortes, home to Amy’s family for nearly 25 years.

Most recently, the North Bend location expanded into the space of a former chiropractor next door. That expansion, they said, allowed them to offer an even greater variety of products that they wanted to make available to the community.

“We virtually had no retail space left to be able to add new product lines or stay current with new product developments,” they said in a statment. “Many of which we felt strongly about being able to provide for the community. As an example, we knew of a veterinarian formulated range of products that were particularly well suited to older and aging family pets.”

The couple said it was difficult to make that expansion jump as small business owners, especially during the pandemic when the store had to close its self wash facilities and relied almost exclusively on sales from its recently launched online platform.

“There were definitely some tough months,” they said. “[But] in spite of the numerous operational challenges that the last two years has presented us with, the communities in which PPM operates within have been incredibly supportive and understanding.”

Chris and Amy said the expansion has been worth it in the end, with the store proceeding to use the space for a number of new products including: specialized food lines, supplements and a new, self service tag kiosk.

“We feel that Pet Place Market is a place for our customers to get excellent customer service, quality products, a self-wash for their pets, and consultation from employees about their pets needs,” they said. “Plus, it’s a fun place to share and interact with your community along with your furry loved ones.”
