North Bend officials and law enforcement will host a community meeting on recent criminal events, including the home invasion homicide that occurred Monday morning, May 13 in the Circle River neighborhood.

The meeting, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, will be held at the Mount Si Senior Center, 411 Main Ave South, North Bend.

Recent inquiries from citizens prompted the meeting, as well as the city’s desire to be proactive in educating the public on crime trends and crime prevention, and to improve communication and partnerships throughout the community.

The conversation will be a two-way discussion, between city staff and citizens. City officials have staid they want to hear concerns and input from the people that are most directly affected by these events.  They also want to inform and educate everyone, to reduce misperceptions, improve their own efficiencies and effectiveness, and optimize public safety to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

Mayor Ken Hearing and City Administrator Londi Lindell will be there to listen to citizens and discuss recent actions the city has taken to address public safety concerns including adopting a camping prohibition on public lands and increased police enforcement

North Bend Police Chief Mark Toner will provide information on trends and crimes, as well as offering crime prevention tips that everyone can use to help the effort.  He will offer minimal information on the recent home intruder case, but as the case is an active investigation, he will be extremely limited in providing any particulars about the case itself.
