North Bend Fire Training Academy no longer to be used as quarantine zone

The Washington State Department of Health confirmed on Feb. 17 that the academy would return to its normal usage.

The Washington state Department of Health (DOH) confirmed last week that the Fire Training Academy near North Bend will no longer be used as a quarantine moving forward.

The facility had previously been chosen as the quarantine site for travelers who flew into SeaTac from Hubei Province, China, and could not self quarantine. No individuals were quarantined at the facility according to the DOH.

“Although the Department of Health considered it as a potential quarantine site, they decided against using that facility,” Linda Waring, a commuciations specialist with the department confirmed via email.

The Fire Training academy confirmed that operations returned to normal, although training was never impeded, recruits are now staying in the dormatories again.

“After an extensive, multi-agency effort to establish a quarantine area to protect Washington State residents, our dormitories and all other facilities are back to normal operations, providing fire training to the Washington State fire service,” the FTA said in a press release. “As there was not a need for quarantined individuals or health care to be housed at our facility, the FTA can immediately return to normal operations.”

Individuals who may need to be quarantined are staying in RVs at a site in Shoreline, according to the DOH.
