North Bend, fire district near agreement for new station

King County Fire District 38 officials and the city of North Bend moved closer last week to a final understanding on a new North Bend fire station.

King County Fire District 38 officials and the city of North Bend moved closer last week to a final understanding on a new North Bend fire station.

The two sides met in a special meeting last Tuesday, May 11, to discuss the latest changes in a joint fire station agreement.

“We discussed a lot of the issues of where the differences were, and we came to at least an agreement to some issues,” said North Bend City Administrator Duncan Wilson.

According to Wilson, agreements seem likely on land reimbursement, access to the building and provision of space in the long term.

“We think we can get language together that will help on that,” Wilson said.

However, both parties are still discussing future annexation of property and how the fire district might be reimbursed as the city grows.

The next special meeting is 7 p.m., Thursday, May 27, at North Bend City Hall. City and district officials will examine the latest proposals with a view toward a solution for future property transfers.
