The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and Agate Pass Transportation are cooperating to offer a new recreational shuttle service between Cedar Falls and Snoqualmie Pass on the I-90 corridor.

The “Bus-Up 90 Shuttle” is primarily intended for hikers and bicyclists using the John Wayne Pioneer Trail (Iron Horse State Park) between Cedar Falls and Hyak, east of the summit.

For many years, this trail, which follows the Milwaukee Road Railroad right-of-way, has been a popular destination for outdoor activities. The new shuttle will provide better access to the Western Cascade Mountains portion. Users can hike or bike downhill from Hyak (I-90 Exit 54 at the summit) to Cedar Falls (south of Exit 32). The shuttle will then transport them back uphill.

The route is 20.5 miles of improved crushed-stone trail and includes high trestles, cascading streams, alpine views, serene mountain meadows and a spectacular 2.3-mile tunnel under the summit. The air-conditioned shuttle bus provides space for backpacks and gear and an enclosed trailer can accommodate most bicycles.

Trail users from Seattle and Western Washington can park at Rattlesnake Lake and Cedar Falls, bus up and then hike or bike back down. From Eastern Washington, users can park at the Hyak Trailhead, hike or bike down to Cedar Falls and then bus up to their autos. The shuttle can also carry passengers downhill and make pickups and drop-offs at intermediate trailheads on advance request.

Cash fares for the shuttle are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, youth ages 6 to 15 and active military. There is no charge for children under age 6 when accompanied by a paying adult. Passengers’ bicycles will be accommodated on a space-available basis. Group and family discounts are available.

The shuttle operates Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, although additional days may be added. For fee and schedule information call (877) Bus-up-90, (877) 981-2022 or online at www.busup90.com.
