NORTH BEND – When the Si View Community Center and pool facility reopens Jan. 5 after a holiday break, it will have a new management system in place.

Redmond-based Friends of Youth and Northwest Centers, in collaboration with Snoqualmie Valley Youth Hub, have contracted with the Si View Metropolitan Park District to oversee operations of the community center and pool.

The group will host on open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 5 to introduce offered programs and services to the community, said Chris Logan, director of development for Friends of Youth. Residents should receive a flier in the mail outlining offered classes and pricing, he added.

In February, a voter-approved park district put control of the former King County facility in the hands of a five commissioners to charge a levy to fund the center’s operations. Si View Metropolitan Park District Commission chair Kevin Haggerty said the King County Auditor has given the commissioners a preliminary estimate of 40 to 41 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation for those living within the district based on the submitted 2004 budget. The number is up from the original estimate of between 28 and 35 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation for a number of reasons including unforeseen repairs, commissioners have said.

The approved operating budget for 2004 is $696,470 and includes operating costs for the upcoming year as well as revenue to pay off the loan balance for operating expenses incurred between June 2003 and May 2004, when the first tax revenues to the district will be available.

When Si View reopens it also will have a new logo. The winning design was selected from entries submitted by youths and adults in the Snoqualmie Valley in a contest sponsored by park district commissioners. The design of North Bend’s Mindy Grice was selected from 33 entries in the contest held earlier this month. The other two finalists in the competition were Stephen Boyd and Terry Carter.
