New center falls at polls

Results from the Nov. 4 general election showed the $10 million Snoqualmie community center bond with a majority of votes, but not enough to put it over the 60 percent supermajority requirement.

Results from the Nov. 4 general election showed the $10 million Snoqualmie community center bond with a majority of votes, but not enough to put it over the 60 percent supermajority requirement.

Results posted over the weekend by the King County Elections Department showed the bond with 2,125 “yes” votes, or 53.5 percent, and 1,845 “no” votes, or 46.4 percent.

Election counts will continue over the next several weeks, with final results posting on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

“Obviously, we’re disappointed,” said Snoqualmie resident Sean Sundwall, a member of the volunteer bond support committee. Sundwall said there were too many issues preventing the bond from reaching the tough 60-percent mark, chief among them the iffy economy and the need for new construction in Snoqualmie Valley School District.

“You can’t overstate the cloud the economy has cast,” Sundwall said.
