A 36-year-old Kirkland man, who was inner tubing without a life jacket Monday, June 30, on the Snoqualmie River, is missing and presumed drowned.

The King County Sheriff’s Department and local fire districts searched for the man, after friends summoned help around 6 p.m. Monday.

The man was with a group of four people floating on the river south of the Falls. The group went through a series of rapids, and the man overturned and disappeared. Monday’s unsuccessful search lasted until dusk.

“The river is running very fast, especially after the hot weekend,” Sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart said. “That’s a recipe for tragedy this time of year.”
