A teacher from the Riverview school district was among five Eastside educators to receive mini-grants from the East-King School Retirees’ Association.

The retiree’s association recently gave grants totaling $2041 to area teachers.

Riverview’s Nelda Brangwin will be using her funds to purchase books to aid youngsters at Cherry Valley Elementary with reading skills.

Three grants went to Lake Washington School District teachers to purchase poetry books for a language and art infusion program, historical novels and activity books that will promote understanding of social studies content, and books about animals for a backpack buddies program (that includes stuffed animals) to be used by primary students.

Bellevue school district will use the grant to purchase a DVD pack for use in Highland Middle School’s Special Education program.

The East-King unit of the Washington State School Retirees’ Association meets monthly throughout the year and welcomes school employees and retired school employees at its meetings. More than 340 members of the East-King unit raise funds year-round so they can assist active educators in need of extra funding for projects and programs.
